ABOUT THE PLAY
Introducing AirbnBaby: a state-of-the-art technology company for the new age, specializing in innovative services for all digital platforms, and ready to meet the needs of the urban family. Following the previous success of MyMom and MyDad, a made-to-order part-time parenting experience for anyone who just needs a bit of pampering in the unforgiving world of the big city, the company is about to launch its latest concept: MyBaby, a part-time child to suit the parenting needs of the busy, urban worker – all on your own terms! No more sleepless nights or feeling like a bad parent. MyBaby helps you realize your nesting needs without feeling guilty!
AirBnBaby is a fictional, satirical, laugh-out-loud black comedy about startup culture, the changing expectations of the urban family, and whether you can truly have it all.
ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHTS
Hilkka-Liisa (Hili) Iivanainen is a stage director, writer, and curator from Helsinki, Finland. Her primary interest is in intersectionality in drama and contemporary theater. She has directed numerous productions by Scandinavian playwrights, co-written new plays, and adapted Nordic classics in Finland and in international theater venues and festivals. In 2017, Hili received a 5-year Artist Grant from the Arts Promotion Centre Finland. She is one of the artistic directors for Tampere Theatre Festival in Finland. Hili holds an MA in Directing from the Theatre Academy of Finland, and a BFA from Chicago College of Performing Arts.
Salla Viikka is a Finnish playwright known for her witty and sharp plays filled with black humour and absurd events. After studying and working in graphic design, creative writing soon took over. She received her Master’s degree in drama and dramaturgy in 2015 from the Theatre Academy in Helsinki.
Salla’s visual arts background has left clear traces in her writing: her plays are often filled with strong imagery and complex symbolism. Many of her plays deal with the topics of work, gender, ageing and multiple realities. She is interested in juxtaposing the everyday events of human existence with big cosmic questions, often with a tragicomic, sci-fi outcome.
Her play “Aukko” (“Gaping Hole”) won the 2015 Lea Award for Best Play of the Year. Her plays have been translated into English, Swedish, Danish and German.
Salla Viikka works and resides in Helsinki, Finland. She is represented by The Nordic Drama Corner.
